This is a must if you download rosters and files from the Internet. You can't read the files directly from a USB drive, so you need this software. Many files are in .max format, so if you want to use Sharkport 2, you have to have the program that converts .max files to Sharkport formatted files. So I just went with buying this to keep from having to convert.
Just have to be very careful, because if you don't follow the instructions exactly when transferring files, you can lock up your ps2 memory card and it will be unusable. So I would back up any important saves before transferring to/from your memory card with the Max Drive, or get an extra ps2 memory card, some old, cheap, used one, and use that for doing transfers, so you don't potentially mess up your good ones.
This device is a recomended item for all those pesky games that just can't be beat. Or maybe you want it to get better scores or just to beat it faster this time. It has a drawback on some games like the original Kingdom hearts for Ps2 as an example. It completley trashed my save file, but it was my own fault. It still makes for a nice item for your library. My only true complaint is that in the featured picture, it shows the memory max item. When reciving my package, it didn't come with it. But it is probably bad reading on my part though.
